Compliance Audit Committee

The Trillium Lakelands District School Board’s (TLDSB) Compliance Audit Committee has full authority under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 (as amended) to address applications requesting an audit of any school board trustee candidate’s third-party advertisers and election campaign finances. This authority includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Review applications and grant or reject audit requests.
  • Where an audit is granted, to appoint an auditor and review the audit report.
  • Where indicated, decide whether legal proceedings shall be commenced.

The committee is comprised of three members and one alternate member.

The mandate of the Compliance Audit Committee will be considered complete at the end of each four-year term of the Board, at which time, a successor committee shall be appointed.

Individuals appointed to the committee must not have audited or prepared financial statements, or have any other formal relationship with any candidate running for office during the 2026 municipal election, including those candidates for the office of school board trustee.

Applications for the 2026-2030 term

TLDSB is currently seeking candidates for appointment to the 2026-2030 Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee.

The upcoming term of office begins October 1, 2026, and ends on November 14, 2030.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • A thorough understanding of the municipal campaign finance rules under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.
  • Former municipal clerks or elections office managers, auditors, accountants, lawyers, or other individuals with knowledge of the campaign financing rules of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, or its provincial or federal counterparts.
  • Experience working on a committee, task force, or similar setting.
  • Availability and willingness to attend meetings.
  • Excellent oral and written skills.

The following are not eligible to sit on the Election Compliance Audit Committee:

  • Employees or officers of the municipality or local school board.
  • Members of the council (who ran in the current election) or local school board.
  • Any persons who are candidates in the election for which the committee is established.
  • Any persons who are registered third parties in the municipality in the election for which the committee is established. 2016, c. 15, s. 66.

Summer break information

Beginning the week of July 6, the TLDSB Lindsay Education Centre is open to the public Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Muskoka Education Centre is closed to the public over the break.

All school buildings will be closed to the public for the summer break beginning Monday, July 6, reopening on Tuesday, September 1.

The first day of school for both elementary and secondary students is Tuesday, September 8. Note, Kindergarten students will have a staggered start.
