Employment opportunities in TLDSB

FSL graphicThank you for your interest in becoming a member of the Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) team!

This is your opportunity to bring your French language skills, equity based pedagogical practices, and love for teaching and learning to our team. We invite you to share your commitment to empowering all learners through culturally responsive and relevant practices with us. At TLDSB, we strive to develop all members of our community by centering diverse voices and lived experiences in our learning.

Shared beliefs

TLDSB French as a Second Language (FSL) Programs are inclusive and accessible to all students within the Board. It is our hope that graduating students of the FSL Program will be able to communicate and function at a level of French proficiency that will enable them to develop a passion for a second language and potentially pursue work or post-secondary education in French.

In all FSL programs, students realize the vision of the FSL curriculum as they strive to:

  • Use French to communicate and interact effectively in a variety of social settings.
  • Learn about Canada, its two official languages, and other cultures.
  • Appreciate and acknowledge the interconnectedness and interdependence of the global community.
  • Be responsible for their own learning, as they work independently and in groups.
  • Use effective language learning strategies.

What does Core French look like in TLDSB?

  • Elementary students receive 200 minutes of French each week (approximately 600 hours by the end of Grade 8).
  • Secondary students study French for 375 minutes each week (one semester).
  • Secondary students must earn one credit in French to obtain their Ontario Secondary School Diploma to graduate.

A student’s French proficiency skills may be maximized as the amount of instructional time and level of intensity are increased. The Ontario Ministry of Education outlines the minimum requirement of a French Immersion program as 50 percent of instructional time. The amount of instructional time in French in each grade level in TLDSB is as follows:

  • Grades 1-6 – 60 percent of instructional time is taught in French. Math and an English language period are introduced, but the remainder of the English allotment is filled depending on staffing and school-based decisions.
  • Grades 7-8 – 50 percent of instructional time is taught in French. Math and an English language period are introduced, but the remainder of the English allotment is filled depending on staffing and school-based decisions.
