Media release: TLDSB releases an Equity Action Plan

LINDSAY, ON – At the September 27 Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) Regular Meeting of the Board, superintendent of learning, Jennifer Johnston, presented an Equity Action Plan, which was developed following a review of the TLDSB Workforce Census, Student Census, and Climate Survey.

In October 2021, TLDSB undertook a Workforce Census to better understand the demographics and feelings of inclusion of our staff. The Workforce Census Report highlights the results, including seven recommendations made by Turner Consulting Group, who administered the survey.

In February 2022, TLDSB conducted its first student census to gather demographic information about the unique and diverse composition of our students. The Student Census Report provides an initial summary of the data collected.

And finally, in May 2022, TLDSB administered a Climate Survey to determine strengths and areas requiring further attention at each individual school and central office.

“The results from the three surveys gave us more clarity on what our core priorities should be which enabled us to develop an Equity Action Plan,” shared Johnston. “We have developed a three-year plan to support equity and inclusion learning, in which every department and team will play an important role in the work moving forward.”

The Equity Action Plan highlights a number of priority areas, including building inclusive communities, enhancing 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion and belonging, addressing anti-Black racism, and the Board’s continued commitment to Special Education and Indigenous student achievement.

“Each focus area laid out in the Equity Action Plan will see a progression of training, attention, and support,” expressed director of education, Wes Hahn. “TLDSB is committed to creating a broader understanding of equity and inclusion in our system to help close gaps, eliminate barriers, and advance the fair treatment of everyone.”
