Letter from the director of education to families: Central Senior School and Leslie Frost Public School FI program review update – October 23, 2024

Dear parents/guardians,

I am writing to share an important update about the grade distribution review for the French Immersion (FI) program that was recently conducted for Central Senior School (CSS) and Leslie Frost Public School (LFPS).

At the October 22 Trillium Lakelands District School Board Public Meeting of the Board, trustees approved the reconfiguration of the FI grades at the two City of Kawartha Lakes schools that offer the FI programming. Effective September 2025, the FI program for Grades 1 to 3 will remain at LFPS, and CSS will welcome Grades 4 to 8.

The questions and/or concerns that were raised at the community consultation, as well as submitted through the feedback form, have all been reviewed. The following areas are being addressed at CSS:

  • Availability of green space and a play structure
  • Ensure the accessibility needs of all students are met
  • Student safety as it relates to the close proximity of the high school and a busy street
  • Parking availability
  • Staffing and resources

Transportation will continue to be provided to and from school for eligible students whose home address is outside the designated walking zone for each school.

All information, including previous communications, can be found on the CSS/LFPS Program Review page on the Board’s website.

If you have any questions, contact your child’s school directly.

Sincerely,

Wes Hahn
Director of Education
Trillium Lakelands District School Board
