On October 28, G7 Student Senate representatives from Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) secondary schools came together for their annual Student Leadership Conference.
Throughout the day, students took part in various leadership focused activities, including learning from our mistakes, focusing on our passions, process facilitation, and polishing our public speaking skills. The group also took time to review the Climate Change Action Plan Report, digging into each of the 10 phases on the plan: Education and Commitment, Mental Health and Student Advocacy, Technology Considerations, Waste Management, Energy Connections, Food Resilience, Resource Management, Carbon-Conscious Transportation, Creation of Eco-spaces, and Evaluation. The students and their administrators will be working hard over the next couple of months to set goals to achieve the Climate Change Action Plan.
In the afternoon, students heard from the District of Muskoka climate change coordinator, Kevin Boyle, who talked about determining priorities to tackle the climate crisis as a community, and the many opportunities for youth to lead the way across the district.
