Officials at Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) are aware and are working with local police to investigate recent hate-motivated vandalism at Huntsville Public School. Of deep concern is the removal and destruction of the pride flag from the school flag pole. This appalling and hateful act does not fit with our TLDSB commitment to respect and inclusion for all. This incident has caused harm in our community. An act of injustice against the two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual plus (2SLGBTQIA+) community is an act of injustice against us all.
The progress pride flag is flying at all schools across TLDSB in June in celebration of Pride month, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, racialized people, and transgender identity. Support is available to TLDSB students or staff members by contacting the classroom teacher or the school.
