On June 28, Scott Young Public School (SYPS) hosted a ceremony to commemorate the outdoor space that was created to honour the memory of a former Grade 4 student, Colton Windrem, who passed away in the winter.
“Colton was a kind, calm, intelligent, and reflective student who spent lots of time outdoors,” said SYPS principal, Rory Ellis. “In honour of his memory, we created a space in the Junior yard, which will allow students a spot to sit, chat, and watch each other play for years to come.”
Over the past couple of months, the SYPS school community came together to support each other by creating “Colton’s Place,” an outdoor area with trees and rocks for students to enjoy. A metal inscription will be placed on the back stone with a metal tractor and the words “Colton’s Place in memory of Colton Windrem.”
A huge thank you for the generous donations from Kawartha Sod, Cutting Edge Excavation, School Council, and community members for making this space possible.
