Professional Activity Day – April 8

On April 8, Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) teachers, educational assistants, and designated early childhood educators from all schools elementary and secondary will be participating in professional development in-person, focusing on mental health and wellness, as well as cyber security and online privacy awareness.

Below is the format that will be taking place throughout the day for each group:

Elementary and secondary

Length: Full day
Topic: Mental health and wellness
Entity hosting: TLDSB Mental Health Leadership Team and hosted by individual schools
Presenter(s)/facilitator(s): School administrators
Description: School teams will engage in learning to understand mental health and mental illness and the relationship between them. Learning will also address mental health prevention and promotion in the classroom, mental health stigma, and strategies to support mental health and manage stress. School teams will explore every day mental health strategies as recommended through School Mental Health Ontario to develop mentally healthy classrooms.

Topic: Cyber security
Entity hosting: TLDSB Cybersecurity Team and hosted by individual schools
Presenter(s)/facilitator(s): School administrators in their individual schools
Description: School staff will be provided with cyber security awareness and training modules using the KnowBe4 Training Portal. KnowBe4 is the world’s largest integrated security awareness training and simulated phishing platform, which provides basic training modules specializing in making sure employees understand the mechanisms of spam, phishing, spear-phishing, malware, and social engineering, and are able to apply this knowledge in their day-to-day job. Staff will receive high quality web-based interactive training combined with common traps, live demonstration videos, short comprehension tests, and scenario-based danger zone exercises.

Topic: Health and safety, violence prevention, policy and procedure, and strategic plan review
Entity hosting: TLDSB
Presenter(s)/facilitators(s): Human Resources Services
Description: Casual staff will be provided with occupational health and safety training, as well as violence prevention training. Further, casual staff will have the chance to be provided an overview and an opportunity to discuss their roles in relation to the Board’s Strategic Plan. Part of the day will include a review of Board policies and procedures that are relevant to the work of casual/occasional staff across all employee groups. There will also be an opportunity for staff to participate in a question and answer period with their staffing officer on topics including Atrieve, the Board’s intranet, and understanding their collective agreements.

TLDSB school and transportation status update – April 4, 2025

Please see below regarding the status of schools and child care centres within schools for tomorrow, Friday, April 4.

Schools specifically listed below will remain closed due to continued infrastructure and/or power outages. If your child(ren)’s school is not listed, it is open.

Note – if there are any power or infrastructure issues that arise overnight that impact the ability for a school to open as planned, notice will be posted to affected families via SchoolMessenger, the Board’s website (tldsb.ca), and social media in the morning.

Transportation information

Transportation is running in all five zones to all schools that are open, however, there may be disruptions to individual routes. Parents/guardians are encouraged to sign up for notifications via mybustoschool.ca and check for individual route delays and modifications.

Zone 2: All schools and child care centres will be open to students and staff and transportation will be running.

  • I.E. Weldon Secondary School – the school is unable to open to students and staff on Friday, April 4, due to issues resulting from the mechanical motor burn out that occurred earlier today.
