MUSKOKA, ON – At the August 27, Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) Public Meeting of the Board, senior administration and trustees swore in Fenelon Falls Secondary School Grade 11 student, Taliah McNelly, as the new student trustee.
“I am looking forward to being given the opportunity to advocate for student voice, specifically for their learning and school environments,” explained McNelly. “I plan to continue the work of the past trustees to meet the needs of the student achievement plan, advancing focus on mental health and ensuring equity for all students.”
McNelly will be in this role for a two-year term, where she will work alongside the TLDSB G7 Student Senate* to represent and advocate for students. She hopes to make a difference for her fellow classmates to ensure they are in an inclusive, positive, and educational environment everyday.
“The role of student trustee is important, as it represents the students, bringing concerns and needs to the attention of the Board,” said TLDSB Chair of the Board, Colleen Wilcox. “On behalf of the trustees and senior administration, we are looking forward to welcoming Taliah to the Board table as the new student trustee and cannot wait to see what she has to contribute.”
*The TLDSB G7 Student Senate is a group of students made up of one representative from each secondary school elected by their peers to help communication between students and bring student issues to the Board of Trustees.
