Langton Public School playground gets fresh paint

During the month of May, Langton Public School’s (LPS) Practical Academics and Life Skills class, along with their educational assistants and teachers, held a Sticker Sale Fundraiser to raise money to paint their school yard playground.

The class collected different genres of stickers – sports, gaming, anime, insects, animals, princesses, and more – and sold them for $1 each. In total, the class raised $1,325!

With stickers left over, the class then had the creative idea to hold a pop-up store the following week, selling mystery packs that contained 10 stickers and sold them at $5 each. With these additional funds, the new total raised was $2,250!

The new total, with the support from the school, provided the class with the opportunity to hire Creative Safety Games to paint the playground.

“The company arrived on June 11, with lots of surprises up their sleeves,” said LPS special education resource teacher, Jayne Leuenberger. “Expecting two basic basketball courts, a tricycle track, a target, four four-squares, four tetherball circles, and two tic-tac-toes in white paint, the students were blown away watching as the team started painting in four different colours, AND added more games than asked for, including fully lined basketball courts, a huge labyrinth, a kinder-sized labyrinth, a sunflower hopscotch, a jump race game, and a new recess favourite – Mirror Me. The students were able to watch the entire process and see how the money they all raised, as a school, was put to use.”
