Huntsville High School student art to be displayed in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario

Eight Huntsville High School (HHS) Grade 11 visual art students have been selected to have their art displayed at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.

The Ontario Youth Arts Program is open to all students aged 12 to 18 in Ontario, and showcases their creativity and diverse artistic abilities through various media, including photography, sculptures, ceramics, drawing, and painting.

HHS students Sophia Markham, Grace Murray, Makenna Patey, Leah Stager, Alex Taylor, Ainslie Valentin, Ella Watson, and Addyson Wing all submitted pieces from their recent class activity, Still Life: Canada.

“I’m always looking for “real world” experiences in art so students aren’t just doing these projects for the sake of being marked so they can get a credit,” explained HHS teacher, Trevor Arndt. “By doing this, students learn a little more about career opportunities in the arts, how to market and exhibit their work, connect with helpful organizations inside and outside the community, build their resumes, as well as boost their confidence.”

The students will be recognized at a reception on Monday, March 4, 2024 – the same day the display in the legislative building begins.
