Hometown Paralympian visits Dunsford District Elementary School

Dunsford District Elementary School (DDES) students and staff welcomed alumnus and Paralympic gold medalist, Jon Thurston, on June 9. Thurston spent the morning with primary classes, had a luncheon with staff, and met with junior and intermediate students in the afternoon.

Thurston is a two-time Paralympian and five-time World Championship Medalist in wheelchair curling, representing Team Canada.

Throughout his presentations, Thurston shared his journey to how he got where he is today, teaching students about hard work and determination in order to achieve your goals.

“The smiles on the students’ faces said it all. They were engaged, inspired, and absolutely loved hearing from him,” said DDES principal, Liana James. “Thank you, Jon, for taking the time to visit our school and for being such a wonderful role model for our students. Your message will stay with them for years to come!”
