Dr. George Hall Public School Cheerleading Team competes at Winterfest

On January 18, the Dr. George Hall Public School (DGHPS) Cheerleading Team took part in the Canadian Cheer Winterfest Competition in Oshawa.

The team, otherwise known as the Huskies, is made up of Grade 4 to 8 students who practice three times a week. Given the array of ages of the athletes, the team was not only the only elementary school at the competition, but they were the only team in a non-compete division, alongside a university and high schools teams from across the province.

“The Huskies performed very well,” said DGHPS teacher and team coach, Stephanie Arscott. “They were so excited about the whole experience and used that energy to perform a great routine!”

“Cheerleading has shown me how much I can do and it takes me to my limits,” explained Grade 8 student, Maddisen, who has been on the team since Grade 2. “Going to competitions makes me want to improve on the skills I have even more.”

“It was really fun seeing all of the other cheer teams and seeing their routines and skills. The best was being with my team and doing our best,” said Grade 8 student Brooke.
