Ridgewood Public School Kindergarten class raises money for local food bank

Between October 27 and 31, Kindergarten students at Ridgewood Public School (RPS) initiated a school-wide food drive to support the local food bank in Coboconk.

Throughout the month of October, the class learned about the third habit of Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: “put first, things first; let’s prioritize important things”. This sparked the idea to organize a food drive, inviting all students and staff to donate food items and supplies.

In total, the initiative collected roughly 16 bags of food, which was delivered to the Coboconk and Area Food Bank on November 4 and will support the local community.

“A heartfelt thank-you to everyone at RPS for organizing a food drive and donating several bins filled with food and supplies! Your generosity and community spirit make such a difference for local families. We’re so grateful for the caring students, staff, and families who came together to support the Coboconk and Area Food Bank — what a wonderful example of kindness in action,” said the Coboconk and Area Food Bank on their Facebook page.

“Many students and staff throughout the school were excited to donate food items during this five-day event,” said Junior and Senior Kindergarten teacher, Bonnie Tokar. “Way to show your kindness and generosity — Ridgewood Wolves!”
