IEWSS wins gold, silver, and bronze at the Kawartha Engineering Challenge

On March 8, I.E. Weldon Secondary School (IEWSS) hosted the Kawartha Engineering Challenge, which invites senior physics students from local schools to learn about the physics of flight and careers in aviation, all while competing in an action packed science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) contest.

The annual event takes place across Ontario and is run by The Engineering Society. This year’s challenge had 11 teams of four participate from IEWSS, Lindsay Collegiate and Vocational Institute, and Fenelon Falls Secondary School. In the morning, each team was given a timeframe to design, test, and modify gliders using only the provided materials. Then, in the afternoon, the gliders were put to the test using a launcher device and awarded points for distance and accuracy.

For the first time ever, IEWSS pulled off a clean sweep taking home gold, silver, and bronze.

Thank you to the event volunteers, which included representatives from Horizon Aircraft and Loomex.
