Ridgewood Public School plants 25 trees

On October 1, Ridgewood Public School was filled with laughter and hard-working students, staff, and volunteers to plant 25 trees on the school property.

The initiative was organized in partnership with Plant Kawartha, who recently took over the Canopy Project in Kawartha Lakes. The project is a volunteer-led community group whose goal is to protect and enhance the urban canopy in the settlement areas of the City of Kawartha Lakes. With the support of the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes, and a grant from the Kawartha Lakes Conservation Area, the Canopy Project has planted 137 trees at six TLDSB schools to date, with an additional five memorial tree donations to one TLDSB school.

“This incredible partnership with Plant Kawartha enhances our environment and provides students hands-on learning about sustainability,” said RPS principal, Jane Austin. “This initiative not only fosters a sense of responsibility, but it leaves a lasting legacy for future generations of Ridgewood Wolves. We were excited to be a part of this work and cannot wait to watch our new trees grow.”
