Media release: TLDSB welcomes new student trustee

LINDSAY, ON – At the August 23 Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) Regular Meeting of the Board, Fenelon Falls Secondary School Grade 11 student, Logan MacInnis, was sworn in as the new student trustee.

MacInnis will carry out his role over a two-year term and will be working alongside current student trustee, Alexia Evans-Turnbull, who is in her second and final year as trustee.

“To be elected into the role of student trustee means I get to advocate on behalf of the student voice to help meet their needs and allow them to have the best educational experience possible without any barriers!” said MacInnis. “I will make it my mission to ensure that all students have the resources they need to not just do well in school, but excel at it, through encouraging more academic support, mental health options, and more exposure to their true passions.”

Within his role, MacInnis is looking forward to working alongside the G7 Student Senate* and hearing all of the different ideas and opinions across the Board. He hopes to be a part of, and contribute to, many actions and campaigns, including the Great Grain Challenge, the Menstrual Equity Challenge, and helping to build upon and execute the TLDSB Climate Change Action Plan.

“The Board is excited to welcome Logan as the new student trustee,” said director of education, Wes Hahn. “With his commitment to advocate for the student voice, we are confident that he will succeed in this role and overall contribute to the student experience.”

*The G7 Student Senate is a group of students made up of one representative from each secondary school elected by their peers to help communication between students and bring student issues to the Board of Trustees.
