BRACEBRIDGE, ON – At the Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) Regular Meeting of the Board, that took place on June 14, the trustees approved the budget for the 2022-2023 school year.
TLDSB believes in a future where our students develop the competencies, understandings, self-confidence, and resiliency to lead healthy, successful, and fulfilling lives. Equity, achievement, and well-being for the members of our community is a priority. “This budget was designed with our students and educators as the focus,” notes Superintendent of Business Services, Tim Ellis. “Within this budget, there has been a greater emphasis put on supports for students who are experiencing learning loss that may have occurred due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as added programming and interventions to strengthen student regulation and achievement.”
Trustees were presented with the key considerations for budget decisions, which include funding amounts for various programs from the Ministry of Education distributed through the grants for student needs, and priority and partnership funding. Other considerations included the value of expenses for supporting student achievement, reinforcing the recovery of learning loss due to COVID-19, and alignment with the strategic direction of the Board.
Highlights of the changes in the 2022-2023 Budget include:
- Increase in central curriculum staff to support classroom instruction and reduce the learning gaps for students, which may have occurred during the pandemic.
- Alignment of staffing complements.
- Increase in the number of itinerant staff to support effective programming through job-embedded training in schools, specifically schools with higher Special Education needs.
- Increased focus on supporting Indigenous communities with additional staffing.
The final 2022-2023 Budget is available on the Public Sector Reports page on the Board’s website.
