LCVI students pursue medical sciences this September!

Lindsay Collegiate and Vocational Institute (LCVI) students will gain hands-on experience in the medical sciences through a new specialist high skills major program (SHSM), launching this September!

Ross Memorial Hospital and Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) recently partnered together to create the Health Sciences SHSM program, to inspire, educate, and give students interested in pursuing a career in health care. The course was inspired by a similar program currently running at Norfolk General Hospital.

Through this new health science pathway, students will gain seven healthcare related certifications, such as infection control, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), first aid, and CPR. Students will have the opportunity to work with hospital staff, in their pursuit of potential careers in various healthcare departments, including diagnostic imaging, respiratory therapists, doctors, surgery, laboratory services, and nursing.
