On October 8, students at Alexandra Public School (APS) were visited by local firefighters from Kawartha Lakes Fire Services Station 4.
In
September, the local firefighters reached out to APS and asked what barriers the school faced with teaching students during the COVID-19 pandemic. After discussing the board’s mask regulations, staff expressed their current limitations wit
h the school’s outdoor learning environment.
Station 4 reached out to the community for donation of supplies and built two weather-proofed whiteboards for the school to use in their outdoor classrooms.
The whiteboard wood was donated by Rona and the magnetic whiteboard material was donated by PK Welding. The firefighters then built the mobile whiteboards during their free time.
