Board elections

Trustee, Bruce Reain, was reappointed as Chair of the Board for 2022. Reain congratulated the entire team for the commendable work they have been doing, and the continuation of this work in the new year. Trustee Stephen Binstock was appointed as Vice Chair of the Board and Trustee Louise Clodd will be the Past Chair for 2022.

Director’s update

Director of Education, Wes Hahn, shared that the November Jersey Day Board-wide fundraiser for the Feed all Four Fund raised a total of $8,450. 

Hahn provided trustees with a COVID-19 case update in the Boards’ regions. In our secondary schools, there are no active cases and we continue to communicate to our community that it is imperative to stay home when not feeling well. All Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) in-person students will be given a rapid antigen test kit this week to bring home before the holiday break. This Ministry of Education initiative is designed to have a healthy return to school in January and is completely voluntary for students to use.  

Hahn noted that should there be any changes to in-person learning after the holidays, TLDSB is prepared to pivot and communicate the change to our community.

Superintendent of Learning, Kim Williams, shared with trustees the previously announced news that TLDSB secondary schools will return to a regular semester schedule in February 2022. It was also shared that student lockers will open to secondary school students on February 7, 2022, at the beginning of their semester.

2021 Board Annual Report

Hahn presented the 2020-2021 Board Improvement Plan for Student Achievement (BIPSA) and Annual Report to trustees. The report highlights the initiatives and programs that have been the focus over the past school year. Hahn noted that TLDSB supported a number of programs and opportunities for students, including promotion of the skilled trades, the rollout of 1:1 devices for Grades 7 to 12, the launch of new programs and applications to help to facilitate meaningful online learning, increased mental health supports for students, and physical improvements in our buildings and facilities.

Each superintendent presented the trustees with a report on the areas that their teams have been working on and achievements made throughout the year.
