2020-2021 Skill Development Program
(Summer Program)
Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) is excited to partner with Canopy Support Services to provide students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) a virtual group learning experience in July and August. Students will explore job or volunteer opportunities, resume and interview skills, and expectations in a workplace, including customer service skills.
Who?
Students who are in Grades 8 to 11 with ASD during the 2020-2021 school year. Participating students must be motivated to participate in a group virtual learning session with the following prerequisite skills:
- Able to use technology independently and participate activity in virtual platform (i.e. camera on).
- Can sit and attend to a videoconference for up to one hour.
- Is able to engage in a two-way conversation.
- Is interested in learning more about job skills.
When?
Sessions will run on the following days: July 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, 29 and August 3, 5, 10, and 12. Sessions will be 45-60 minutes in length from 11 a.m. to noon. For an optimal learning experience, students should plan to participate in all session days/times.
What does the program look like?
- Two 45 to 60 minute virtual group sessions per week.
- A partnership with parents/guardians (and students) in order to enhance student participation and success.
- Two Canopy staff per group of 10 students.
- Sessions will be delivered via ZOOM on a computer or tablet.

NOTE: Acceptance into the Employment Skills Group is by invitation only based on the applications received as we need to ensure our numbers remain at a level to match our staffing allocation. We will do our best to accommodate as many students as possible.
