Director message to families – Return to School Commitment

Dear TLDSB Families:

This letter is primarily for families with students attending at school starting in September.  I am writing to let you know that our schools are prepared to receive students in the safest way possible. Your child’s school will provide you with information about the day to arrive as part of our staggered entry.

Please note that we are working to finalize staffing assignments for at-home remote learning. Principals and teachers will be reaching out within the next week to provide you with more information. In the meantime, we thank you for your patience.

For in-school learning, I would like to highlight the daily health assessment in the Return to School Plan for TLDSB Families as an important way you and your family can help us to have a safe school year. We are asking that you complete the  TLDSB Return to School Commitment form by September 11, 2020 to acknowledge that you will:

  1. Do a daily assessment of each child in your household each day before sending them to school;
  2. Keep your child home from school if your child has any of the symptoms listed in the daily health assessment checklist; and
  3. Understand that if your child shows signs of any symptoms on the checklist, they will be removed from the classroom and you will be asked to collect them from school.
  4. Send your child to school with a cloth face-covering/mask(s) to be worn throughout the school day and on the bus.

This commitment form needs to be completed once for each child in the family. The Daily Health Assessment must take place each day but there is NO requirement to report on the results unless your child has any of the symptoms on the health assessment. Find the health assessment attached, on the board’s Return to School webpage, or on your school website. If your child has any symptoms of COVID-19 or if they are ill, they are not to attend school. Please report your child’s absence by contacting your child’s school.

We are working with our local public health unit to take steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our schools and will keep you updated with new information as it becomes available. We have taken steps to reduce the risk of COVID-19 in our schools and buildings including enhanced cleaning and reducing the number of contacts among individuals in schools, including students, staff, and others.

For more information on COVID-19 please visit the TLDSB Return to School webpage and Ontario.ca/coronavirus. If you  have any questions, please contact your child’s school.

We are looking forward to welcoming our students back to in-school learning or at-home remote learning.

Sincerely,

Wes Hahn
