COVID-19 update – January 12

The Ontario government, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health and other health experts, has declared a second provincial emergency.

Effective January 14, the government is issuing a stay-at-home order requiring everyone to remain at home with exceptions for essential purposes, as outlined in the provincial news release. This order and other new and existing public health restrictions are aimed at limiting people’s mobility and reducing the number of daily contacts with those outside an immediate household.

By January 20, the Chief Medical Officer of Health will advise the Ministry of Education on which school boards in the public health unit areas will be permitted to resume in-person learning, based on the most up-to-date data and modelling.

To continue to keep students and staff safe, upon return to in-person learning, the following new health and safety measures will be put in place for in-person learning:

  • Masking for all students (currently in place at TLDSB schools) and requirements for mask wearing outdoors
  • Enhanced screening protocols
  • Expanded targeted testing

We will continue to communicate new information to you as it becomes available. All COVID-19 information and updates can be found at tldsb.ca/covid19/.
