We are excited to announce the After School Skills Development Program, which seeks to offer social skills learning opportunities for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) outside of the school day.
The After School Skills Development Program is made up of four individual programs, each with a specific social skills focus and target age groups. The programs will be offered in-person and virtually.
Program 1 – Robots4Autism (Milo)
- For: Kindergarten to Grade 2
- Location: In-person
- The program will focus on self-regulation “calm down” module and the following social skills: greetings, social conversations, and identifying foundational emotions.
- Length: 14 weeks (January – April 2022)
- Application deadline: January 7, 2022
- For: Grades 3 to 11
- Location: Virtually
- The program will focus on problem-solving strategies and basic coding concepts through graphical code and block code to build friendships through a shared interest in computers, coding, and robotics.
- Length: 5 weeks (January – February 2022)
- Application deadline: January 7, 2022
- For: Grades 5 to 8
- Location: In-person or virtual
- The program will focus on learning the skills needed to make and keep friends in a small group format.
- Length: 10 weeks (February – April 2022)
- Application deadline: January 7, 2022
Program 4 – Social Thinking and Me
- For: Grade 3 to 5
- Location: Virtual
- The program will focus on learning the skills needed to develop a deeper understanding of emotions, and compare reaction size to the problem.
- Length: 8 weeks (March – April 2022)
- Application deadline: January 7, 2022
